The Sefton Childrens's Poetry Competition 2004

'The Sefton Poetry Competition is a very welcome event: it celebrates a wide variety of new voices.'

                                 Andrew Motion (Poet Laureate)

The Sefton Poetry Competition of 2004 has, for the first time, been exclusively for the children of Sefton. Entries were invited for poems on the theme of healthy lifestyles in keeping with Arts Development's increasing activity to an arts and health agenda. A range of prizes were  on offer from signed footballs from the Liverpool and Everton teams, guided tours of Anfield football club and family Megabowl tickets. The two first prizewinning poems in both age categories have been used on a poster campaign and can now be seen on buses running throughout Sefton.

1st Prize (11 years and under) Daniel van der Spuy

1st Prize (12 years and over) Ashleigh Lawless

Sefton Open Art Exhibition 2006

The Sefton Open has rapidly established itself as a hugely prestigious and popular event in the local and national arts calendar. Aimed at contemporary artists working in any two dimensional medium, The Sefton Open is held each autumn at The Atkinson Art Gallery in Southport and seeks to develop the audience for new and challenging art while providing artists from throughout the country and abroad with opportunities to showcase their work. The exhibition consists of over 100 works from approximately 90 artists and incorporates many forms of painting, prints, drawings and work in some of the newer or more unusual technologies. Prize money of £1750 is shared between four artists with the additional 'Dick Young Award' going to the best work by a Merseyside based artist. The Sefton Open and its supporting programme of educational workshops is organised and funded by Sefton Arts Development and supported by The Arts Council England - North West.
